Autumn decoration is seriously polluted, need to be cautious

Artificial board threatens respiratory tract paint to destroy hematopoietic function

A lot of survey data at home and abroad have confirmed that indoor pollution caused by a large number of toxic gases is much more terrible than the outdoor gray sky. The shocking words of leukemia, lung cancer, and infant deformity are increasingly associated with "decoration pollution". Some experts pointed out that, following the "smoke-type" and "motor vehicle exhaust-type" pollution, modern people are entering the third pollution period marked by "indoor air pollution".

For more people, because they did not realize in advance that decoration pollution may cause serious consequences, the harm caused by this will make people regret it.

Investigation report on indoor environment of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 10,000 people surveyed live in more than 10 newly built or newly renovated communities and more than 30 high-end hotels, office buildings, conference centers and laboratories. It was found that indoor pollution included more than 50 types of chemical, physical, biological, and radioactive substances. Among them, formaldehyde, benzene, and volatile organic compounds exceeded the standard by 20 to 30 times, and the highest reached 40 times. Among the respondents, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and poor sleep accounted for 30%; those with skin irritation symptoms accounted for 30% 40%; those with chest tightness and throat problems accounted for 30% 40%; rhinitis accounted for about 40% The World Health Organization announced that 100,000 people worldwide die of asthma every year due to indoor air pollution, 35% of them children.

Five major culprits in indoor pollution

Is it really "decoration pollution is more fierce than tiger"? Researcher Zhang Jinliang of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences said that the sources of indoor air pollution in China mainly come from three aspects: pollution caused by the building itself, such as the presence of radioactive pollutants due to the high radioactive background of raw materials in certain building materials; interior decoration materials and The pollution caused by the process, such as plates, chemical fiber carpets, wallpaper, etc., especially low-grade materials, the pollution is more serious; the pollution caused by furniture and home appliances, such as the release of formaldehyde from panel furniture, and the benzene pollution of cloth sofa spray tape. Scientific research shows that the above materials contain more than 300 kinds of volatile organic compounds, among which there are 5 main and most harmful:

Formaldehyde is mainly derived from board materials such as wood-based panels, sandwich panels, and adhesives. Long-term exposure can cause cancer of the nasal cavity, mouth, nasopharynx, throat, skin, and digestive tract; and low-dose contacts can cause chronic respiratory disease, pregnancy syndrome, and even nasopharyngeal cancer.

Benzene mainly comes from coatings, paints, adhesives, wallpaper, carpets, synthetic fibers and detergents, solvents, etc. Benzene has a special fragrance, but it is a strong carcinogen. Long-term inhalation will destroy the human circulatory system and hematopoietic function, leading to leukemia.

The latest research results published by the Radon World Health Organization show that radon has become the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. Professor Zhi Xiuyi, director of the Lung Cancer Center of the Capital Medical University, said that radon is a natural radioactive gas, colorless and odorless, like "invisible smoke". Its main hiding place is granite and ceramic products such as ceramic tiles and sanitary ware. An average increase of 100 bakers per cubic meter of space increases the risk of lung cancer by 16%. In the United States, about 60 people are killed by radon every day, exceeding the number of AIDS deaths.

Ammonia mainly comes from concrete additives and interior decoration materials. Ammonia gas is easily soluble in water, and it has a quick effect on eyes, throat and upper respiratory tract, and is highly irritating. Short-term inhalation of large amounts of ammonia will cause tearing, sore throat, cough, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, dizziness, vomiting, fatigue, etc. Especially in the winter construction, a large amount exists in antifreeze.

Total volatile organic compounds mainly come from furniture, wallpaper and so on. It can cause imbalanced immune levels, affect central nervous system function, appear dizziness, headache, drowsiness, chest tightness and other symptoms, may also affect the digestive system, appear to have anorexia, nausea, etc., and can damage the liver and hematopoietic system in severe cases.

Will these five substances really make decoration pollution an "invisible killer"? Zhi Xiuyi said that indoor pollution caused by decoration materials is indeed an important cause of cancer. The toxic substances in the decoration may be related to leukemia.

New house is best to "physical examination" first

So, in the face of the newly renovated new house, how should we deal with the smell of air in a hurry? Several experts gave you the following tips.

Use with wood and stone. Dong Jingsheng, deputy secretary-general of the China Consumers Association, said that when choosing a decoration design plan, a single material should not be used too much. It is best to use materials such as wood, stone, glass and iron.

The artificial board is about 100 yuan. Wood-based panels are the easiest source of pollution. There is a simple standard when choosing: each panel of about 100 yuan is relatively safe; the amount of large core panels in a room of 100 square meters should be controlled within 20 sheets.

Solid wood furniture is the most environmentally friendly. Solid wood furniture has the least amount of glue and little pollution; try not to place large or large-area furniture in rooms with small spaces; do not choose furniture with the same floor materials, especially for families with laminate flooring and other artificial floors. Choose as few wood-based furniture as possible.

Ventilated for one month. For large and complicated renovation projects, it is best to ventilate for one month before staying. For simple decoration or renovation, we must pay attention to opening more windows and letting air convection, because benzene, formaldehyde, ammonia and other pollutants have a larger proportion than air, and sink more in the indoor bottom layer. Only air convection can drive them out.

"Physical examination" for new houses. Many people think that there is a pungent smell of pollution after the decoration. In fact, this is not the case. In the poisonous and harmful gases, formaldehyde has a pungent smell, and radon is colorless and tasteless. Before check-in, it is best to find a qualified authority for indoor air toxicant detection and evaluation.

For office buildings with large decoration areas, it is best to choose non-toxic and non-polluting building decoration materials and office furniture; the ventilation time is longer than that of ordinary households; it is best to conduct indoor air quality testing before moving in; some plants have adsorption effects on pollutants, such as Evergreen vines and iron trees can absorb benzene and organic matter, and Chlorophytum and Aloe can absorb formaldehyde.
