European marine wind power total installed capacity increased by 4.5% in the first half of the year

According to a report released recently by the European Wind Energy Association, in the first six months of this year, the European region newly put into production 101 sets of marine wind turbines, with a total installed capacity of nearly 350,000 kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%.

The new wind turbines are located in the United Kingdom, Germany and Norway. In addition, there are 11 marine wind farms currently under construction in Europe, with a total investment of 8.5 billion euros (about 12.3 billion U.S. dollars) and a total installed capacity of more than 2.84 million kilowatts. The average power of wind turbines has risen from 2.8 megawatts in early 2010. The current 3.4 megawatts.

Christian Scherr, head of the European Wind Energy Association, said that the European wind power industry is emerging from the shadow of the financial crisis but is facing the problem of unstable economic environment. Europe is currently building some large-scale ocean wind power projects, so more large institutional investors are required to participate.

As of June 30, 2011, 49 European marine wind farms were distributed in nine countries and had 1,247 wind turbines in operation, with a total installed capacity of more than 3.29 million kilowatts. In the European wind turbine market, Siemens has a market share of 84%.
