Seco Tools launches new non-standard double-head gear hob

Seco has announced the launch of a new double-headed gear hob that can help manufacturers in the gear drive and related fields significantly increase their production efficiency. This uniquely designed tool embodies the efforts of a large number of research and development workers, and can give full play to the ever-increasing power and rotational speed performance of modern CNC gear processing machines.


In order to further improve Seco's efficiency in the processing of gears, this double-headed gear hob was eventually developed by Seco Italy. Since it first developed the company's first indexable gear hob in 2005, Seco Italy has always been at the forefront in applying innovative methods to solve gear machining problems. Products manufactured based on these results have been sold globally, greatly improving the operational efficiency of manufacturers around the world. Our efforts in this regard have enabled our gear milling cutters to be accepted by customers around the world and have benefited greatly from their production status.



With its unique modular concept, the gear hob has achieved great success, and Seco Italy has successively innovated by changing its original design. By splitting the gear hob from a single head to a double head design, our R&D team designed the tool to significantly reduce the customer's production cycle on the premise of ensuring the quality and reliability of the original tool.

During the development process, Seco Italy branch company and famous gear manufacturer C. I. R. Ingranaggi S. r. l. (Pogliano Milanese near Milan) Close cooperation. In C. I. R. Thanks to the support of Giancarlo Bertolini, one of the founders of Ingranaggi, the team successfully completed the test of the double-headed gear hob. This new tool replaces the existing HSS gear hob and can shorten the machining cycle time of parts from 22 hours to 3 hours, saving more than 85% of the time.


Each gear hob produced by Seco is tested by a dedicated inspection equipment CMM and test software developed in cooperation with Seco and Zeiss. In this way, Seco can ensure that the quality of each gear hob achieves Class B accuracy (excellent quality grade achieved in consideration of the total tolerance of blade and shank manufacturing).
