The purchase of wood lacquer is rather troublesome. Apart from several well-known brands such as Giraffe, China Resources, Garbo and Dabao, many wood lacquer brands are unfamiliar. According to chemical composition analysis, wood lacquer is also divided into lacquer, polyester lacquer, etc., which makes the layman dazzled. First, nitro-lacquer: Nitro-lacquer is a relatively common wood and decoration coating. The main film forming material of nitrolacquer is based on nitrocellulose, which is composed of soft and hard resin esters such as alkyd resin, modified rosin resin, acrylic resin and amino resin. Generally, it is necessary to add plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl ester, and castor oil. Solvents include true solvents such as esters, ketones and alcohol ethers, cosolvents such as alcohols, and thinners such as benzenes.

Nitro-lacquer has the advantages of good decorative effect, simple construction, rapid drying, low requirement for coating environment, good hardness and brightness, free of free TDI, easy to appear film defects, and easy repair. The disadvantage is that the solids content is low, and more construction passes are required to achieve better results. The criteria for distinguishing the advantages and disadvantages are solid content and environmental protection, so pay attention to comparison when purchasing. For example, the glycine nitrocellulose lacquer generally has a solids content of more than 40% and a mild odor. Some nitrocellulose lacquers have a solid odor of only about 20%. Another way is to look at the history of the company and see how mature the technology is. Domestically, the most mature manufacturers of nitrocellulose lacquer are Chinese lacquer (brand is Giraffe, which has a history of 75 years), as well as Zhujiang Chemical and Ye Hengchang, all of which are old companies for many years.

Second, polyester paint: It is a polyester resin as the main film made of a thick paint. The paint film of polyester paint is full and the layer is hard. Polyester paint also has a varnish variety called polyester varnish. Polyester paints need to be cured during construction. The amount of these curing agents accounts for one-third of the total paint content. These curing agents are also called hardeners and their main component is TDI (toluene diisocyanate). These TDIs, which are in a free state, turn yellow, which not only turns the yellow paint on the furniture, but also yellows the adjacent walls. This is a major drawback of polyester paints. Currently, yellowing-resistant polyester lacquer has appeared on the market, but it can only be used for “yellowing resistance”, and it cannot completely prevent yellowing. In addition, free TDI beyond the standard can also cause harm to humans. The international limit for free TDI is controlled below 0.5%. The contents of wood lacquer for Giraffe and Dulux are controlled at about 0.2%. Therefore, care must be taken when purchasing.

Third, polyurethane paint: polyurethane paint polyurethane paint that is polyurethane paint. Its film is tough, full gloss, strong adhesion, water resistance, abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance. It is widely used in advanced wood furniture and can also be used on metal surfaces. The main disadvantages are the occurrence of blistering and splashing, paint powdering, and other problems. Like polyester paint, it also has the problem of yellowing.

The lacquer looks like water and the polyester is white. Nitro-lacquers have better decorative effects, but the number of brush passes during construction is more than that of polyesters. If the pursuit of better film effect, decoration time is relatively plentiful, use nitro-lacquer (American-style coating are used nitro-lacquer), giraffe, China Resources, Yip Hengchang and other well-known manufacturers of nitro-lacquer quality are good. If the decoration time is tight, polyester paint and polyurethane paint are the best choices.
