The Russian Institute of Chemistry and Mechanics invented the "Diamond-like Superhard Materials Explosive Preparation Method" a few years ago, and it is also possible to obtain polycrystalline synthetic diamond by this method. This makes it possible to process very hard materials and high quality optics. The exact name of the method is "dynamic-static compression method". The basic process of its work is to strike (load) the object to be compressed with a shock wave and apply a relatively high static pressure during a few minutes of pause (unloading).
